Highveld Ridge SPCA Inspector Saves Dog From Slow Death
(It’s great when the public respond to situations, and it’s even better when the animal escapes what would have been a slow and agonising death. What kind of person does this to an animal? In my opinion they should be behind bars, since they are a threat to society. I would like to point out further that it was not Jabu that saved this animal, he was merely doing his job – this dog was saved by a person who took action and DID SOMETHING. – animalman)
Once again Animal Welfare Inspector Jabu has come to the rescue of a dog, this time a little fox terrier that was found “buried alive”
On Sunday morning a man passing by a secluded area some where between SECUNDA and Standerton, heard a yelping noise, he looked around but could not see anything, and so continued on his way. On Monday morning when passing the same place he once again heard the noise. This time he stopped and located the source of the noise.
To his shock and horror he found a fox terrier type dog buried in a mound of earth, right up to ITS ears. Yip! just like when we where kids on the beach, Just the little head left sticking out. The big difference, this was a remote area and no one was supposed to find the dog.
The kind soul immediately contacted the SPCA’s emergency line and Jabu was on the scene shortly afterwards. He and a colleague dug up the mound and freed the dog, who immediately made sure his tail end was clean before he followed his rescuer to the SPCA vehicle. Once Jabu got the dog to the bakkie he gave him water – he drank and drank – about 2 liters non-stop.
“Lucky” is now safely at the SPCA kennels, none the worse for his ordeal.
How can you help – easy – If you hear any one talking about this incident let us know so that we can bring such a uncaring person to court and leave his/her fate to the residing magistrate.
Please contact the SPCA on 017 632 2654 or 082 222 1122 to report emergency situations like this one.
Congratulations Jabu, your fast action stopped cruelty in its tracks.

The person that did that to that harmless poor dog does not deserve to be part of the human race. If I had to find this person I would do the same as what he did to that dog. He/she is not a human but a barbarian and a disgrace to the human society.
The police is not interested to fight crime; so they are not interested in animal abuse. The laws on animal abuse became lame. Animal abuse is on the increase and who but the lame government will attempt to make laws stricter.
Another piece of trailer trash roams this world – anyone sick enough to dream up something as terrible as this is as Bronwen says in serious need of mental evaluation. If someone doesnt want an animal take it to a welfare organisation. We have so many serious issues in this country one wonders how we would ever get the police to care and help an animal when it takes the vast majority of them all their time to assist a human in need – that is when they can heave themselves off their vast posteriors!
I am so outraged about this little dog being buried alive! A person who can inflict such suffering on any creature, is the same type of person that would rape kids, beat women, or murder in cold blood. This type of person has no conscience, and is psychologically impaired, so society must put them into institutions to safeguard our communities! A slap on the wrists or a fine, would be ignoring the seriousness of having a maniac on the loose! We must make every effort to see that the law and sentencing gets an overhaul.
My personal opinion here is that we cannot count on the police (**) for anything, least of all to help an animal. They feel less for an animal than they do about people. All they are concerned for is how to fatten their back pocket – nothing else. If helping is not going to benefit them in any way, they will not help.
(**) Before anyone has a heart attack, I do not mean all police – there are some good ones out there who want nothing more than to do their jobs to the best of their ability, but you know what they say about “1 rotten apple in a barrel” !!!
If this person is ever caught, don’t hand him to the police. Hand him to the people who are outraged by this. He won’t abuse another animal again, that’s for sure.
