A Light in the Darkness for Homeless Animals in South Africa

Tracy Forté Resigns from Wet Nose

Tracy Forté resigned yesterday as Managing Director of Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre. Here is her resignation, faxed to me yesterday:

tracyresignation

This does not mean the campaign to have the legitimacy of the current Wet Nose Board examined and voted on by Wet Nose members will stop. It continues, especially given that they withheld Tracy’s salary (she was suspended with FULL PAY) which is not only illegal but simply unethical. Personally, I am disgusted.

It has now become an issue of urgency to review the composition and activities of this Board. Something is not right here.

Tracy, this does not end here. I have received MANY emails supporting you and FEW standing up for this illegitimate Board. I will be watching their activities, through various means, like a hawk.

If anyone has information pertaining to the events at Wet Nose, please email me at derek@hopeful.ws or fax me on 0866417608

PLEASE ANNEKE, John held back Tracy’s Salary so that she can not pay her lawyers, and that was his words to Walter Schilling. If John Bogiages and his side kick did not get involved with Wet Nose, Trace would sitll by with WETNOSE.

Hoop the truth comes out before Bogiages destroys Wetnose, as he did with a Radio Club, and a Bottlestore.

  2. Wolf2Man says:

I believe that Tracy forte was to large extent Framed. Bogiages, Manual and than a name that never came to light is Schilling hijacked Wetnose. I’ve been watching the developments from time to time and really hoped the truth would come out. Prinsloo was the one to do the dirty work, to get trace of the board.

About tree years ago i stood at a function close to where Bogiages and Schilling was talking, I overheard Schilling say to Bogiages, “Ek soek daai perde/diere” Bogiages responds “Ek sal met Fortè gaan praat en sien wat ons kan doen”. I was shocked, and even môre so when I saw Bogiages was now on the board of directors.

I don’t want to get involved but want to push you in the right direction

    1) How many animals dit Shilling receive vorm Wetnose?
    2) What is the relation ship between Bogiages and Manual, his wife’s name is Fiona?

Apparently Bogiages and Shilling also “hijacked” the community radio club, i don’t know much about that but it look like this is in there nature.

WOW… okay. if you clame to be lovers of animals then why slander everyone and make them feel worthless ITS TIME TO SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE!!!! the ANIMALS at wetnose are all SUFFRING as well as getting the NEGITIVE side of this whole thing. wake up okay!!! this isnt about anyones personal life!!! this is not to get get revenge okay this whole thing where you all blame each other has got to stop cause its doing nothing but makeing isusses bigger nd createing more and more bad publisty for wetnose… I am a volunteer at wetnose. i have a mom and god mother that come home in tears almost every night because of all these happings. if you really cared about the animals then do something reather than keep giving wetnose a bad name. put yourself into the animals paws/hooves/claws for one day. you cant always have things your way but you can make it so that some animals have a better chance than what they have now. As humans we should know better… we have the brains after all….

I will not sink to the level of personal attacks, slanging matches and childish responses which have been a feature of the majority of the postings and which say more about their authors than about the issues at stake.

I am proud to say that I have had the privilege of knowing Tracy Forté since the days when she was with the Animal Anti-Cruelty League and subsequently started Wetnose with only R 500 in her pocket, building it up to an organization with
R 10,000 000 in assets and a healthy R 1,000 000 cash in the bank – within the spate of only 10 or 11 years. This she achieved by virtually sacrificing her life to do so, working tirelessly and without salary for many months. Because of her uncompromising stance against animal neglect she has, of course, made enemies among the animal abusers and their cohorts. There has also been a measure of jealousy among individuals and organisations who envied her successes. At the same time she has brought hope and joy to thousands of animals who would otherwise have suffered even more and lost their lives because of irresponsible pet ownership.

I am convinced of her innocence and have not seen any incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. Neither has her legal counsel. I am also happy to wait until the end of the legal proceedings which, I’m sure, will see her vindicated.

It has been said that most people are like crayfish in a basket. As soon as one reaches the top he is pulled down by the others. The analogy is appropriate for what is happening here.

Derek, I just want to know the following please:
1 – Are you going to take up the board of directors of wetnose’s offer to visit them on the 23rd to hear their side of the story…
2 – what will you do when the truth is indeed that Tracy did some wrong as you seem very dedicated to her, will you then apologize to wetnose and the board?

i honestly hope that you would also do this above with the same dedication…

  6. Philip & Gerda Kruger says:

Even though we knew about Tracy’s intention to resign, reading her letter of resignation fills us with sadness – seeing any person’s dream crushed is not easy and never pleasant.

Whether you think Tracy is guilty of any of the charges against her or not, you have to now stand up and salute her for what she has achieved for animals. Tracy has always only stood for a quality of life for homeless, abused and abandoned animals – please afford her the respect she has given the animals.

Tracy, you still have friends out there and that will always love and respect you and support you!

  7. Derek says:

Anneke directing ad hominems at me and what I do, which you cannot possibly know, hardly strengthens your case. It’s firstly irrelevant but secondly is rather an adolescent form of argument. Let’s stay with the issue. The fact that you do not know what I do speaks volumes about your relatively novice status in the world of animal welfare.

I have no obligation to publish your allegation-riddled acceptance of Tracys resignation within your time-frame. I said it would appear tomorrow and it will.

  8. Anneke van Zyl says:

And by the way, if you are soooo concerned about the animals, why don’t you come and look for yourself?

  9. Anneke van Zyl says:

Derek, Tracy is not going to reply…why would she? YOU are her mouthpiece! So is it “fair” to keep your/Tracy’s side of the story on the blog for as long as you want? And an honest reply from the Board is not that important after all, is it? You are not doing this saga any good, you are destroying what we are trying to keep going. I don’t know what your real idea behind this blog is. You are no legal entity; you do not supply a helpful service; you don’t run an advisory board – all you do is play judge and hangman – without the facts in front of you. Have fun, I don’t know what else you actually do in life. You have my email address, you can reply to me personally, or you can stop this crap! NO-ONE has to answer to you about anything. If you really wanted to be helpful, you should have published both stories at the same time, and let the public make up their minds. You obviously don’t think they are capable of doing so, so you want to spoon-feed them. I will be surprised if you publish our reply. And if you do, we don’t need your comments about anything written there. Those will be OUR comments, finish and klaar.

  10. Sasha-Leigh says:

I wonder why not all the comments are being posted by Derek…..is it really because you did not get your facts straight before you started this childish accusations???

  11. Derek says:

I will publish the Wet Nose reply acceptance of Tracey’s resignation tomorrow morning. I thought it only fair to give Tracy time to respond to the (yet another) set of allegations made rather opportunistically in the document.
I will also respond to the propaganda release sent out to Wet Nose members and published below (I received one to my personal email address) which conveniently focused on discrediting this Blog and staying FAR away from the prospect of meeting with members and resolving these issues transparently.
I am also concerned about the animals and surely it is not only in their interests but also the interests of Wet Nose to settle the minds of the public as soon as possible. The simplest solution would surely be to arrange the meeting suggested before? Why are Wet Nose maneouvering so carefully away from this?

    From: Wetnose Animal Rescue [mailto:wetnose.marketing@absamail.co.za]
    Subject: Wetnose Important Notice

To all our loyal and loving supporters of Wet Nose.
Events have taken place over the last three months that we have tried to keep out of the media for the sake of the animals in our care. Tracy Forte, Managing Director of Wet Nose was suspended by the Board of Directors after allegations of gross financial mismanagement. Investigations are taking place and the aim of the Board of Directors was to keep a low profile on this until these allegations had been proved or disproved.

Unfortunately, there are always those who, before knowing the facts, go off on a tangent, run to every public forum possible and start sending emails en mass, regarding what they think are the facts, but are in fact all based on gross untruths and ignorance. This has forced us to approach you, our supporters, before we are able to supply you with the outcome of the investigation. In the process, all these people achieve is bringing an animal shelter, who is already on its knees due to dishonesty, even lower.

We have over three hundred animals in our care and a cash flow problem. At the same time we have people like Derek du Toit and his blog, Hopeful Homeless spreading gross lies about Wet Nose causing us to be inundated with questions while we are supposed to be with the animals and causing the loss of financial support while we can least afford it. These people claim to be animal lovers, yet they are causing irreprible damage by affording themselves the right to do and say whatever they like without checking the facts. Derek has refused an opportunity to discuss the matter with Wet Nose and continues on his mission of murder!

This is very serious and Wet Nose is in real danger of not pulling through this crises. What will we do with all the animals and where will all our staff go? We appeal to you all to save Wet Nose and our animals. Tracy Forte’s hearing will be held at the CCMA this Saturday where after Wet Nose will make a public announcement. I don’t think that the CCMA will appreciate being referred to by Derek as a “kangaroo court”. The whole story will soon be known to all, but I am afraid it may be too late to save Wet Nose.
Please, please, please do not believe the lies, do not withdraw your support and do not forward the bogus emails. Rather forward this email to everyone in your address book and ask them to do the same, so that some of the damage can be undone. It would break our hearts and cost the lives of so many helpless animals if we do not pull through. We can only survive with the help of each and every one of you.
    Kind regards,

Board of Directors Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre

At 09h45 (SA time) this morning, I sent Wetnose Board’s reply iro Tracy Forte’s resignation to Derek.

  14. Pagan J says:

“Derek” who is the Company Secretray and auditors???
    Thanks.

  15. Derek says:

Anneke Perhaps if you asked the Company Secretary and the Auditors about the Loan, they may be able to shed some light on it for you. In addition, WHY would Tracy have been paying R1000 per montha against the loan if it was not approved?

  16. Anneke van Zyl says:

    sorry, I meant FAX…not phone!!!
I’m absolutely delighted that YOU have seen the approval, because none of us have ever seen it, and it was not minuted either… maybe you are in a better position to tell the board about the events at wetnose? You have my email, why don’t you email me the proof of approval?

  17. Derek says:

WHERE did I say ‘phone me’? My number is not freely available to the public?

  18. Derek says:

“Without Board Approval”? Really? How is it possible then that I have seen this approval? And why was Tracy not informed that this was the reason for withholding of her salary? In addition, since she had been suspended, not fired, you had no right to set off her salary against the debt.
I am willing to consider any written or typed information which I will obviously verify; what I cannot do is capture verbal interactions. Hence the requirement that people document their information.

  19. Anneke van Zyl says:

Salary withheld: because the loan she gave herself without board approval needs to be deducted; her personnel file, plus various other files, were removed by her and never returned even after numerous requests.
Derek, I understand that you don’t want to speak to me one of one because things need to be in the open, so why the request that people must email you personally, or even phone you re “information pertaining to the events at Wet Nose”? Do you want to base another story on hear-say? The board’s official reply will follow later today.
