Pet Empowerment
PETS (Pet Empowerment in Townships) strive to empower animals in townships and poor communities. Pets living in such areas do not have the same privileges as other animals such as daily meals, warm shelters, regular inoculations, sterilisations and vet care in emergency situations. Therefore, we try to improve the lives of these disadvantaged animals by giving them all of the above and we also re-home those ones that are unwanted, unloved or lost.
PETS mainly work in townships rescuing pets from harsh conditions and helping pet owners living in areas where there is no veterinary service or animal welfare sterilise their pets. It is these unwanted puppies that become abused and neglegted animals.
PETS have regular sterilisation days in Stellenbosch done by Dr Roos of Stellenbosch Animal Welfare. Dr Roos also accompanies PETS on sterilisation campaigns such as the weekends to Calvinia and Lambertsbay. On these weekends volunteers assist pet owners and their animals during the sterilisation process. Dip stations are also set up and the community encouraged to bring their pets to be dipped.
PETS (Pet Empowerment in Townships) statistics for 2010:
Sterilisation Aim: 1000
Sterilisations done: 1271
Adoptions: 1110
And thousands more through educating, medicating and love.
