Cleary Park Spayathon
It was all systems go at our clinic when we brought in Dr. Pikkie to do 29 sterilisations. 30 were booked, but one lady did not arrive with her cat!!! A huge thank you to the volunteers – Louisa, Tagan, Renata, Elri, Jade, Christell, Magda, Raaez, Lauren, Tara and Glenn, who were of invaluable help to us. 7.30a.m. on a Sunday is real dedication!!! Dunette and the Westering High School Interact group, thank you so much for spending time with the other doggies and allowing them some human interaction time and to the clinic staff who put in those extra hours, kudos all round.
Four Paw awards to the following:
Tammany Barton and her wonderful team from the Blanket and Petfood Run: each and every animal went home with a blanket and food.
Sarie Marais and Tannie Margaret for the selfless continuous flow of colleads that you provide for these animals. To see a dog released from wire, nylon rope or chain and provided with a collead is pure joy.
To Janet Simpson and the Kennel Club members – for the further donations of food that allowed us to provide food in the field this week.
To those of you who dropped food and blankets at our Bargain Box or who sponsored a spay, thank you. You have all made a difference to those who cannot speak for themselves.
To Mark Ackerman of Foodcorp: your generous donations have provided us with a back-up food supply for distribution in the field over the next few weeks, during this cold and hungry spell.

Most of you will have read about the hunting dogs in the Weekend Post. All ten of them were sterilised yesterday, de-wormed, dipped, inoculated and provided with colleads, pallets, blankets and food. An interpreter allowed us to earnestly appeal to this owner and to educate him as to caring for these animals. We will check on these dogs on a daily basis and if things do not improve, we will certainly take further action. (UPDATE: These dogs are all being confiscated; the owner seems unable to learn, and went back to his old ways the moment AACL’s backs were turned!)Pound volunteers – you will be glad to know that four pound hounds were also sterilised yesterday and Rose went off with blankets for each and every doggie at the pound.
In the pics, you will see a devoted owner, “Mrs. Snoopy”, as we fondly called her – this lady has been waiting to have her “child” sterilised ever since we had to cancel the Motherwell spayathon, due to the unrest there at the time and the lack of facilities at the venue. She not only had to use public transport to get there, but was first in line at 7.45a.m. Mrs. Snoopy and Snoopy spent the entire day with us and we have all recognised that this is the best-behaved dog we have ever met – giving many of our own spoilt sinners a run for their money! We ensured that both owner and Snoopy were given a lift all the way home.

We are hoping to hold a backlog-spayathon once a month, possibly on both a Saturday and a Sunday, but at this stage, certainly on one of the days. One of our main concerns is the over-breeding and we still feel that sterilisation programems are vital. Your support in enabling us to do is so greatly appreciated.
Paws up from those who cannot speak for themselves.
Kind regards and thanks
