My Shelter Animal Family - Di Cooper, Hopeful Networker

I have what I think are the best three dogs in the world – nothing like pedigrees but all shelter or vagrant animals.

Brandy, (now Sweetpea, A brindle Alsatian look-alike) used to belong to street people for many years – they used her to breed puppies. We looked after the folk and Brandy for many years, feeding them and letting them have blankets, dog food, dog bowls etc. Then Denise, the owner, went off his schizophrenic medication and started to use Brandy to attach people so that he could rob them being the vagrant that he was. The authorities in turn wanted Brandy put down but after taking her to DARG and being told she was too old to ever find a new home, we adopted her and she is the most gentle loving girl you could ever wish for. She’s now 19 years old but still plays like a pup with her squeaky toys and it has been a privilege to look after her in her “retirement” years. May she grow old with us and one day just gently fall asleep.

The second little dog, Gabby, was obtained from TEARS where she was in the quarantine cage but nobody knew this (it was over a weekend) and they let her us adopt her. She had such bad mange that she had hardly any hair, squint eyes from following flies around the cage and catching them and was really the most strange little mutt you’d ever have seen! After many months of care, dips, bathing, lotions etc. she got all her fur back and her eye has become less squint (well, it’s there but one cannot notice it too much!). She is the most amicable loving little dog with the most placid nature and is never and has never been any trouble. One just has to love her 200% she’s such a little sweetie and it’s still not enough love to give to this special girl..

Cassie the third girl was obtained from the Animal Welfare and by far has been the naughtiest of all the dogs we’ve ever had. Two lounge couches, dogs’ beds and torn throws later, she is starting to settle down and has become such a little sweetie and so smart – she’s a cross wire-haired Jack Russell and one needs to tell her something just once and she KNOWS for the next time!
