Feature: Storm Fear Phobia
Do you have a dog that suffers from Storm Fear Phobia? If you answered yes then consider joining in on the research that is currently being done on this subject right here in SA, which is a combination of Behaviour Modification and Tellington TTouch and is really helping dogs. The research is made up of 4 different sections:-
- Behaviour Modification Only – Free and by e-mail
- Behaviour Modification and information on two basic TTouches and the Wrap – Free and by e-mail
- Behaviour Modification for those who have already done TTouch, with information on the TTouches to use – Free an by e-mail
- Behaviour Modification and Storm Fear Clinic – this takes place on 3 consecutive weekend mornings and consists of Behaviour Modification, TTouch and Groundwork as well as information to assist you implementing House Rules to help your dog feel more secure. There are two other things that I do which you may want to share with others. The one is that I offer a Puppy Starter Session or Adoption Starter Session, whereby the person comes to me and I give them very comprehensive information such as sit, down, loose lead walking, bite inhibition, swap, house rules, alone time, jumping up, food bowl exercises etc. I supply a comprehensive booklet with all these subjects (and more) in order that these caring people can really help the dog/puppy to settle in and help it to become a happy, well adjusted member of the family. The investment for this is R450.00 and the duration an hour and a half. When people come to me after being referred from a Rescue Centre such as yours, I immediately donate a R100 of the fee to the rescue centre concerned – I know it costs a lot to run your wonderful organizations and all I do is ask for proof that the dog came from a rescue organization
The other thing that may interest you is that this year I started a Canine Behaviour Foundation Course for those who wanted to learn more about dogs or take their careers further. This is an accumulation of all I have learnt over the last 9 years and it deals with the most very basic topics, such as puppies and goes all the way through to behaviour problems etc. You can have a look at what is covered on my website. This course is also recommended by the ABC of SA™. It really is a course for those who have very little knowledge about dogs, not for the more advanced person. The reason I mention it is that I decided, in order to give back, to award a scholarship to somebody would find it difficult to afford the course, but who desperately wants to learn more. Now, I have awarded the scholarship for February 2010 to a lovely lady who works at Puppy Haven, but if you feel any of your volunteers or staff would appreciate something like this, please send me the persons name and why you think they should receive it and I will definitely consider them for the next course intake later next year
